Khalid Once Fanboyed In An Elevator With Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake probably does not remember his elevator ride with Khalid, but the “Young Dumb & Broke” singer certainly does.

Khalid, 21, shared the story with Zane Lowe on the debut episode of the musician’s “Free Spirit Radio” on Apple Music. The story began with Khalid expressing his love for “Cry Me A River”, Timberlake’s song. “That melancholic vibe, floaty, literally feels like a rainstorm is washing over you”.

“The soft vocal and then even the ‘Heeeeeeee’, like the melodies that are just being used throughout this song and I really kept that song in mind so much because just how sad I was after I listened to it. I love when you can add emotion to a song and take someone from Point A to Point B in a matter of seconds”.

Lowe asked Khalid, “Justin Timberlake, have you met him?” Khalid replied, “I rode an elevator with him once. I was walking out of the studio and the door is open and boom! there goes Justin Timberlake in your face, like, right there when the doors open at the elevator. So I’m just, like, do I get in? Do I just wait?

“I got in”, he continued. “I literally had to at least soak up his energy for the time being. This was so long ago. He probably didn’t even really know who I was but just being around him… that was just a moment of history. I texted my mom right after, like, ‘Oh, my God. You’ll never believe who I was around today’.”

Khalid also shared how Frank Ocean and Alina Baraz influenced him through his teenage years, expressed his love for Drake, and revealed he has an unreleased collaboration with Majid Jordan that needs to see the light of day.

Episode 1 of “Free Spirit Radio” features songs by artists that have inspired his life and his upcoming album, Free Spirit. Episode 2 of Khalid’s show airs Friday.
