Chris Rock joins Justin Timberlake in Neil Bogart biopic “Spinning Gold”

Four-time Emmy winner Chris Rock is attached to star opposite Justin Timberlake in the Neil Bogart rags-to-riches biopic Spinning Gold, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.

Bogart’s son, Timothy Scott Bogart, is expected to direct from his own screenplay, and he’s also producing with Laurence Mark, Gary A. Randall of the Boardwalk Entertainment Company and Timberlake, as well as Mark Damon of Foresight Unlimited, which is financing the film.

Bogart was the larger-than-life record executive from Brooklyn who went on to define the pop-music culture of his time, and who was closely aligned with the rise of disco. He founded Casablanca Records, and was credited with either discovering or helping to launch the careers of superstars such as KISS, Donna Summer, Curtis Mayfield, Gladys Knight, Bill Withers, Parliament and The Village People.

Spinning Gold has been near and dear to Timberlake, who has stuck with the film for nearly five years, turning up in Cannes to pitch the film to foreign buyers in May 2013. We hear production will finally start in February. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions will distribute Spinning Gold in multiple territories, and CAA is representing domestic rights.
